Not necessarily. I may be wrong, but I belive you can use the GURU ROM in
the 2091, which should give you a reliable card. It's the same Western
Digital SCSI chip as the GVP card for which the GURU was developed; I think
it works.

Alternatively, I have a GVP HC8+ card with 8MB of RAM and a 50MB hard drive.
It packed in about a year ago but someone might be able to resurrect it.

Using Z2 SCSI cards in an A4000 will always give you the DMA problems,
though.

Can you jumper it to force it into Z2 mode? If not it'll detect the
presence of the Z3 bus and jump into Z3 mode.

I don't think the HyperCom is a Z3 card. It's _called_ the "Z3i" but I
can't see anyone going to the trouble of making a serial card support Z3.
Z2's 3.5MB/sec should be easily enough for some IO...
